Anoka Cannabis Company

Anoka Cannabis Company is one of the only city-operated cannabis dispensaries in the United States, owned and run by the City of Anoka at 839 E River Road. It sits adjacent to the city's Better Values municipal liquor store on the east side of downtown Anoka, a short drive from the intersection of Highways 10 and 47 along the Rum River corridor. Anoka's city council voted in May 2025 to enter the cannabis market directly, citing the revenue model proven by the city's decades-old municipal liquor operation. Proceeds from the dispensary support city services including parks and recreation. The store opened in early 2026 under the management of the city's Liquor Operations department. Store hours are Monday through Saturday, 10 AM to 9 PM, and Sunday, 11 AM to 5 PM. The location is accessible via Anoka's surface streets from Highway 10; take the E River Road exit and head east past the railroad tracks toward the river. Street parking is available along E River Road. Anoka is known as the Halloween Capital of the World and draws visitors each October for its festival, making the dispensary well-positioned to serve seasonal tourism traffic in addition to local residents. The Rum River flows through the city's central green spaces nearby, and the historic downtown sits just a few blocks west on Main Street. Anoka Cannabis Company is currently the only licensed cannabis retailer operating within the city of Anoka.
