Cannabis Cultivation Jobs in MN

The backbone of the industry. Learn how to turn your green thumb into a career, from entry-level trimming to Master Grower roles.

Working in Minnesota's Cannabis Grows

Before a product ever reaches a dispensary shelf, it spends months in a commercial cultivation facility. As Minnesota's legal market scales up, the demand for skilled agricultural workers, botanists, and reliable technicians is skyrocketing.

Cultivation jobs offer a hands-on career path for those who prefer working with plants over working in retail customer service. Be prepared: commercial growing is closer to industrial farming and scientific facility management than casual home gardening.

The Cultivation Career Ladder & Salaries

Trimmer / Post-Harvest Tech

Entry Level

$15 - $18/hr

The most common entry point. Responsibilities include manicuring dried flower, separating shake, bucking plants, and maintaining a sterile workspace. It requires patience and an eye for detail.

Cultivation Technician

1-3 Years Experience

$18 - $24/hr

The daily caretakers of the plants. Tasks include watering, mixing nutrients, pruning, defoliating, cloning, transplanting, and monitoring for pests or diseases (Integrated Pest Management).

Head Grower / Director of Cultivation

5+ Years Experience

$90k - $150k+/yr

Oversees the entire facility. Responsible for crop steering, yields, genetic selection, managing the environmental control systems (HVAC, lighting), compliance tracking, and managing the cultivation staff.

The Reality of the Job

  • Physical LaborYou will be on your feet all day, lifting heavy soil bags, bending, and reaching under intense indoor lighting.
  • Strict ComplianceEvery plant is tracked via RFID tags. Moving a plant to a different room without logging it can result in massive state fines.

How to Get Hired

If you lack commercial cannabis experience, highlight transferable skills. Commercial agriculture, warehouse logistics, or scientific laboratory experience are highly valued. A willingness to do the dirty work (cleaning floors, washing pots) and an understanding of cleanliness and sterile environments will set you apart from candidates who just "like weed."
