Question 1

Where is the nearest cannabis dispensary to St. Anthony Park?

Accepted Answer

St. Anthony Park, located in northwest St. Paul near the University of Minnesota's St. Paul campus, is one of the neighborhoods currently furthest from an open dispensary. The nearest options are along University Avenue in Minneapolis or St. Paul — check mncannabishub.com/dispensaries for updated listings as new locations open in 2026. Residents without a car can use the Green Line light rail (Raymond or Westgate stations) to reach dispensaries in Minneapolis within about 20 minutes.

Question 2

Can I use cannabis on the U of MN St. Paul campus or in Como Park?

Accepted Answer

No. Cannabis is prohibited on all University of Minnesota campuses, including the St. Paul campus adjacent to St. Anthony Park, because the university receives federal funding and federal law still classifies cannabis as a Schedule I controlled substance. Como Park and Como Regional Park, accessible from St. Anthony Park, are public spaces where cannabis consumption is also illegal under Minnesota state law. Consumption is only allowed on private property with the owner's permission.

Question 3

What are Minnesota's possession limits for cannabis?

Accepted Answer

Adults 21 and older throughout Minnesota, including St. Anthony Park, may legally carry up to 2 ounces of cannabis flower in public. At home, possession of up to 2 pounds is allowed. For other product types, the public limits are 8 grams of concentrate and 800 mg of THC in edibles. Possession above these thresholds is a criminal offense that can range from a misdemeanor to a felony depending on quantity.

Question 4

Can I grow cannabis in St. Anthony Park?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Minnesota state law allows adults 21 and older to cultivate up to 8 cannabis plants per household (no more than 4 can be in the flowering/mature stage at once). Plants must not be visible from public spaces. St. Anthony Park is a leafy residential neighborhood popular with university employees and families; renters should check their lease agreements, as landlords retain the right to prohibit cannabis cultivation on their properties.

Question 5

Do I need a medical cannabis card to buy recreational cannabis?

Accepted Answer

No. Any Minnesota adult 21 or older with a valid government-issued ID can purchase recreational cannabis from a licensed dispensary without a medical card. However, a Minnesota medical cannabis card offers key advantages: cardholders are exempt from the 10% state cannabis excise tax (saving money on every purchase), may access higher-potency products, and qualify for higher possession limits. The OCM registers patients with a wide range of qualifying conditions including chronic pain, PTSD, and anxiety.
