Adult-use cannabis flower in Minnesota averaged $13.54 per gram in early 2026: a 48% premium over the $9.17 per gram median paid by medical patients, a spread of $4.37 per gram.

The medical-vs-adult-use price gap
The single clearest signal in Minnesota's first full year of legal retail is the gap between what registered medical patients pay and what adult-use shoppers pay for the same format. At a $9.17 median, a registered patient buying an eighth (3.5g) of flower spends about $32.09, while an adult-use shopper at the $13.54 median spends about $47.39: roughly $15.29 more per eighth. Where the money goes: product mix
Flower still dominates Minnesota spending, accounting for roughly 56% of category sales in the most recent verified OCM snapshot. Why prices look the way they do
Minnesota's retail market is still young and supply-constrained. The official OCM licensed-businesses snapshot dated 2026-09-01 lists 374 business licenses: including 202 retail-authorized businesses and 267 microbusinesses: with 156 cultivation-authorized operators feeding the supply chain. A thin cultivation base relative to demand keeps adult-use flower prices elevated; as more canopy comes online through 2026 and 2027, the per-gram premium over medical is the number to watch. Methodology & sources
- Prices. Median flower price per gram for the adult-use and medical channels is published by the OCM Cannabis Market Monitor (figures as of 2025-12-31). The premium is calculated as (adult-use − medical) ÷ medical.
- Category sales. Monthly sales by product category are drawn from the OCM Cannabis Market Monitor (January 2026 snapshot extracted from the OCM Power BI dashboard). Shares are each category's sales divided by the sum of the six tracked categories shown.
- Totals. Combined Jan–Feb 2026 retail sales of $37.7M reflect adult-use plus medical receipts reported by OCM (as of 2026-02-28).
- Limitations. Per-eighth and per-ounce figures are straight-line extrapolations of median per-gram prices and exclude bulk discounts, taxes, and promotions. We do not estimate values OCM has not published.
